It probably goes without saying…
…but Lafayette’s house on “True Blood” is pretty much exactly what my house is going to look like. We all knew that, right?

i got this beauty at the salvation army thrift store in clarksville, in. it was even on sale! mint condition, and just BEGGING to be in the living room that i don’t have yet, in my lovely mid-century construction house. won’t it be a lovely complement to the leopard-print sofa and marble-topped coffee table and white shag rug? yes, it will.

stop the presses, kids. i found a china pattern. this was clearly the most important thing i could be doing in the midst of writing a dissertation, especially given that not only don’t i have a formal dining room, i actually don’t have a place to live in the US, and all my stuff is in storage in indiana. but it’s not like that stopped me from buying two couches while i was visiting home this month, and it sure isn’t going to stop me from drooling over this china.
this is from the salem china co., which was founded in 1898 in salem, oh. though this translucent china is my favorite, they made some really beautiful collections, and even a commemorative FDR plate that i’m also sort of coveting right now.
anyway, if anyone ever feels the irresistible urge to buy me china because, i don’t know, i’m cool or something, this is the one i love. one day, when i have a formal dining room, this will be in it, amidst my weirdo neo-classical stuff.
so while i was home, i got to take a little roadtrip with my cousin to get her new vintage camper from fine designs camper sales in smithland, kentucky. (that’s just outside of paducah, if you’re keeping track.) she bought one a few years ago and made it into just about the most adorable thing i’ve ever seen in my life, but their family outgrew it, and so now she’s doing a slightly bigger one. by the time we got there and sherry had shown us all the campers she was working on, i was completely hooked.
this one, a platt trailer from elkhart, indiana, was my favorite of the bunch. it had a charming linoleum table, and so much potential on the inside. so now, i have visions of eventually landing a job in a place where i can buy a house and have a vintage camper so that i can go on little roadtrips, and write, and, you know, see some cool shit.
